Shimla is the capital of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, in the Himalayan foothills. Once the summer capital of British India, it remains the terminus of the narrow-gauge Kalka-Shimla Railway, completed in 1903. It’s also known for the handicraft shops that line The Mall, a pedestrian avenue, as well as the Lakkar Bazaar, a market specializing in wooden toys and crafts.

Menri Monastery - Dolanji

Dolanji is an area near Solan in Himachal Pradesh, India. It is  located about 20 kms from Solan is one of the best place to see Tibetan culture .It is three  kilometre from the diversion at Ochhghat on the Solan – Rajgarh road. I visited these place on  22th June, 2016 with my family members . The experience of visting this  places was awesome. I  have  started my journey at  6.00 AM in morning and  taken breakfast  at  Solan  and  the   reach  Dolanji   around 10.30 am .  After reaching the  Dolanji we have visited the  following  places.

Kanam Village - Land of God

Kanam (On a side road from Spillo. 40 km from Powari, 2699m) a beautiful village in Kinnaur District of Himachal Pradesh. Kanam comes under pooh tehsil and village is divided into two parts- upper & lower Kanam. KANAM is known as the land of god. This village is famous for its own beauty, land of sangyas This is a complete monastic village and its Buddhist monastery is of considerable significance and dates back to time of Rinchensang-po. This is located at the base of the Nesang valley and is on one of the old trade routes that led to Tibet. It is 47 km from Recong Peo. In Kanam (Kinnaur) monastery there are 7 big and small monasteries built by Rin-Chan-Sang-Po.

How to Reach
By Road - Mandi is approachable by road from Shimla (145 Kms), Chandigarh (205 Kms) and Delhi (450 Kms). There are regular bus services linking it to the other towns like Manali, Palampur and Dharamsala.
By Rail - Broad gauge train travels upto Pathankot, from where a narrow gauge train takes you to Joginder Nagar- Mandi distance of 55 Kms can be covered by road.
By Air - Nearest airport is at Bhuntar, 31 Km from Mandi.

Best time to visit Mandi is from October to November and then from March to May as weather remains comfortable during these months. Mandi could be a good option for witnessing snowfall if you want to avoid the crowds of Shimla.

Temperature : In winter, the temperature can drop to below freezing point Summer temperature stays mild and pleasant.

History of mandi

Not much is known about the early history prior to the formation of Suket in 765 AD. The area had been under the control of Ranas or Thakurs. The only place that has an early mention in literature is Rewalsar and it is mentioned in the Skanda Purana as a sacred place of pilgrimage. How to reach:

By Road - Sirmaur is approachable from many directions by road

   1. Via Dehradun (Uttrakhand) through Paonta Sahib
   2. Via Kala-Amb from Haryana and
   3. Via Solan from Shimla (H.P.)

Regular bus services are available linking it to the other towns like Manali, Delhi and Haridwar.

By Rail - The nearest railway stations are Ambala, Chandigarh and Kalka which are connected by a regular bus service.

By Air - Nearest airport is at Chandigarh.
